Registration

  • Before uploading Images to the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year 2008 Competition all entrants, after reading the competition rules, must register and submit their details using the Registration Form.  (full rules and registration form can be found by selecting the item from the top Menu). Organisers will attempt to respond to the registration request, within 72 hours, once your registration and residency of the Isle of Wight has been verified you will then be supplied with a password and login details.

  • Please ensure that your email address and phone number is updated, if necessary, in case we need to contact you during or at the end of the competition.

  • The competition is open to all Isle of Wight resident photographers (amateur or professional) ONLY.

Images 

IWPOY 2008 is a themed competition: ‘Photos as Art - Pictures people would like to hang on their walls’

This is a very open theme and could include; macros, landscapes, objects, portraits, flowers, animals or anything that you as a photographer consider artistic and would like to see on your wall.

  • A maximum of 3 Images per entrant are allowed of which these images must have been taken within one year prior to the closing date of the competition 16th October 2008. The copyright of all images including individual images making-up a composite image must belong to the photographer.

  • Images may be colour, monochrome, manipulated or a combination of all three. Images must not contain text (i.e. photographer’s name or image title).

  • Images taken with digital media and scanned film images are acceptable, however exif data from digital files and negatives from film may be required for date verification of the winning images.

  • If an entrant wishes to change previously uploaded images they must delete the image they wish to change before uploading their new entry, maintaining a maximum of three images in total.

  • Images that have previously won any other competition will not be acceptable.

  • Three sizes of each respective image in jpeg format will be required: one for uploading to the Online Competition Gallery a max of 500 pixels at longest side @72ppi and not exceeding a max of 60kb file size, an Image of 1024×768 pixels max 1mb to be retained by the entrant which may be required if the image is short-listed for the IWPOY Awards Evening viewing in December 2008 and a further hi-res image that can be printed to a minimum of 12″ x 8″ @300ppi if required for the 50 short-listed exhibition entries. Note: larger images selected for printing are preferred in uncompressed Tiff format.

 

Closing Date

The closing date for entries will be midnight the 16th October 2008 the short-listed entries will be displayed in the online Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year 2008 short-list Gallery within 21 days after the competition closes. All short-listed entrants will be invited to attend the Final Awards presentation evening of the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year 2008 in December. All 50 short-listed images will be exhibited in 2009.

 

Copyright & Liability

  • Each entrant must be the sole author and owner of copyright in all pictures entered. It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, and not the organisers, to ensure they comply with these ownership and copyright requirements and own the rights to reproduce their images. The copyright will remain with the photographer. Images that are discovered to not fulfil these criteria will be deemed ineligible and disqualified.

  • Images are uploaded at the entrant’s risk and the organisers regret that they cannot accept any liability for the unauthorised duplication or use of images submitted to the website. It will be the entrants responsibility to ensure that the images submitted are bonafide.

Details and Pictorials for those entrants unsure of how to resize their Images for the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year 2008 will be provided in the IWDIG online Forum at www.digitalfoyer.co.uk

The organisers retain the right to remove images if they are judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of the competition or are deemed to be of an inappropriate nature. It is the entrants responsiblity to ensure that images are submitted correctly. Conduct not in keeping with the spirit of this competition, multiple single-user registrations, the use of false names and/or addresses will result in disqualification from receiving an IWPOY award and taking part in all future Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year events. By registering you agree that your details and images may be used for other promotions relating to this competition. 

 

Isle of Wight County Press IWPOY 2008 Calendar Category

After registration you may use the same login details for both categories in this year’s IWPOY. Except where stated below the main IWPOY rules (above) apply to all submissions in this new 2008 IWPOY category.

  • A maximum of 3 Images per entrant are allowed making a total of 6 submissions for the IWPOY 2008 (main & calendar categories). The closing date for this category is 2nd September 2008. The copyright of all images submitted must belong to the photographer.

  • Images must be in colour and depict BEAUTIFUL ISLAND SCENES (Isle of Wight only). For possible inclusion in the calendar images must be in landscape format. 

  • Three sizes of each respective image in jpeg format will be required: one for uploading to the Online Competition Gallery a max of 500 pixels at longest side @72ppi and not exceeding a max of 60kb file size, an Image of 1024×768 pixels max 1mb to be retained by the entrant which may be required if the image is required for the IWPOY Awards Evening viewing in December 2008 and a further hi-res image that can be printed to a minimum of A3 @300ppi if required for the IWCP 2009 Calendar.  IMPORTANT: larger images selected for printing are preferred in uncompressed Tiff format.
