This is the last day for Island Photographers to register and submit images for the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Award 2008. With over 250 images entered IWPOY organisers extended the original deadline until 9pm today 18th October 2008.
This extention is to afford all those photographers who have already registered to make sure they have followed the simple rules of this free to enter competition and for the organisers to finally announce just who will be judging this years IWPOY.
The decision this year to keep the Judges names and profiles underwraps, was quite simple:
The original intention of the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Award was to create a camaraderie within the Island photographic community.
The Awards are impartial and free to enter, we did not wish the photographers, whether amateur or professional, to gain any unfair advantage by uploading images which could be misconstrued as playing to the judges preferences.
Registrations for the IWPOY are still being accepted (via above links) images can be uploaded until the gallery closes at 9pm this evening.
For those that were lucky enough to be in the shortlist last year. Preparations for the 2nd exhibition in the Olympus Gallery at Dimbola Lodge of the 50 images from last years winners is well underway. An invitation only opening night reception is planned. More details coming soon…
