With so many exciting photography projects taking place the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Competition and Awards (IWPOY) organisers the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group have decided to take a gap year.
The annual IWPOY is something everyone can get involved in and we sincerely thank all those who have supported us over the last 6 years and got involved. We have rescheduled the IWPOY for 2012 which will ensure a fresh new approach in the Olympic Year. As they say watch this space…

The Silver Trophy provided by Dimbola, is presented each year to the person who the IWPOY recognises as having made a great contribution to photography and photographers on the Isle of Wight.
Bob Aylott has done a great deal in support of island photographers over the years. As freelance photographer and former Amateur Photographer Magazine (AP) features editor Bob, regularly focused on Island Photographers, such as last years IWPOY winner David Vennings and local photographers Ian Pratt and Gary Early to name but a few. The final shortlist for the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Awards 2010 is announced today, Thursday 17th February.
There is a slight change to the competition format this year with only 40 instead of the usual 50 entries appearing in the shortlist. This change allows space for prints from the Isle of Wight Young Photographer of the Year to be displayed alongside the main IWPOY entries in the Quay Arts Exhibiton.
The competition as always attracted in excess of 200 photographers, from across the Island. Read more
At long last here is your chance to meet the Judges for the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Competition 2010.

The judging for this year’s IWPOY will be going ahead shortly in January. Due to certain difficulties it had to be delayed this year and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience.
The standard of entries has been exceptionally high and we are very much looking forward to displaying the shortlisted entries and even more to viewing the judge’s winning entries.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year and assure you that the IWPOY competition will once again be underway very soon.
Unfortunately due to lack of entries the Isle of Wight Young Photographer of the Year My Life, My Island competition has been cancelled!
The main aim of the Young Photographer of the Year competition was to encourage those under 16 yrs to get out and about on the Island so that we could showcase just what the Isle of Wight has to offer. Unfortunately although we received over 30 registrations from those under 16 yrs the majority did not submit their entries into the specific My Life, My Island Category.
Thank you to those who participated, but sadly there can be no prize award, as it would be unfair to award any prestigious title based on so few entries.
However, we intend to ask the Judges if they will choose three of the best images currently contained in the My Life, My Island Gallery, and they will be exhibited in the IWPOY Wall of Fame along with the main IWPOY shortlisted entries at the Quay Arts in March 2011.
It is disappointing not enough entries were submitted in the youth section of the IWPOY photography competition. Despite this we are happy to have tried and hopefully will re-launch Young IWPOY again in 2011.
